The NILSBC supports and promotes the Saint Bernard Club of America's Rescue Foundation in its efforts to solve the ever continuing problem of pet overpopulation.
Every year numerous Saint Bernards and other various breeds are euthanized un-necessarily because there simply aren't enough homes to put them in. Many Saints enter into rescue having been abused or neglected. Some have health or behavioral problems that were never addressed in their previous environment.
The Rescue Foundation has many volunteers who devote their time, finances, care and love to helping St. Bernards in need. All Saints under the care of SBCA Rescue recieve appropriate medical attention, training and any behavior modification needed.
Adopt!!!! Before rushing out to buy that new puppy, please consider the option of adopting an older Saint. The advantage of adopting from Rescue is that all dogs are current on their vaccines, heartworm tested and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Being able to give a home to a dog in need is a truely rewarding experience.
Foster!!!! So many Saints are in shelters at this very moment because there aren't enough foster homes in our network to house them all. If you have it in your finances and your heart to open your home up either permanently or temporarily to a Saint in need then please contact your nearest Rescue group.
Volunteer!!!! A great way to get involved for the new Saint owner is to get in contact with a local Saint Rescue group. Even if your house is full with all the drool you can handle, or if you are unable to own a Saint but still fancy the breed.....volunteer to help out with rescue functions, fund raisers, transport, and adoptathons!!
Avoid irresponsible breeding practices!!!! Breeding should be done to improve the breed in health, type and temperment. Breeding is NOT a means to make money. The NILSBC does not promote, encourage or associate with puppy mills, pet stores, or pet dealers/brokers. Responsible breeders enforce spaying and neutering all companion puppies. They are held accountable for every puppy they produce and vow to provide a home for any puppy placed that can no longer be cared for by its owner.
